Lighting in the bedroom: where to place lighting points

Bedroom lighting

The bedroom is not just where we sleep; it is our private retreat, the space where we read the last chapter of a book before we close our eyes, where we choose our outfit for the day, and where we relax after hectic hours. For this reason, designing lighting is not just a matter of aesthetics, but of functionality and well-being.

Diffuse and enveloping general light

The first lighting point to consider is the general one. Avoid overly powerful ceiling lights in the center of the room that create sharp shadows on your face when you are in front of the mirror. Our advice is to favor warm light (between 2700K and 3000K) diffused through a pendant light fixture or, better yet, LED strips built into the drywall or above the closet for indirect light that does not glare.

Comfort and design for reading lights

As for reading lights, classic bedside abat-jours are an evergreen, but today there are more functional solutions. Adjustable wall lights are certainly among them: installed on either side of the headboard, they allow you to direct the light beam exactly to the pages of the book, without disturbing those sleeping next to you. Another modern design choice that frees up valuable space on the bedside table are mini pendant lamps, essential if you love the clean lines of space-saving beds.

Functional and accurate wardrobe light

Lighting in the wardrobe area is often underestimated. How many times have you confused dark blue with black? There is a solution to this: adjustable spotlights placed about 50-60 cm from the closet, directed inward, or internal LEDs with an aperture sensor that illuminate shelves and drawers only when needed, allowing you to choose clothes without having to turn on the main light in the room.

Smart convenience with motion sensors

The real revolution in bedroom lighting, however, lies in under-bench motion sensors. Imagine having to get up at night. Instead of looking for the switch in the dark, a sensor placed under the bed frame detects your movement and turns on a soft LED courtesy light at floor level. This allows you to get your bearings without “waking up” your brain with violent lights. In addition, thanks to smart systems, you can program the light to dim gradually in the evening (sunset effect) and turn on softly in the morning, simulating sunrise for a gentler awakening.

The importance of light adjustment

Regardless of location, every light point should be dimmable. Being able to vary the light intensity allows the room to be transformed from an operational environment (cleaning, changing seasons) to a temple of relaxation in an instant.
